Programmes at Daughters

Daughters offer a multi-level range of programmes, to help girls at differing stages:

Employment In Fair Trade Business Schemes

There are 4 small businesses; sewn products, cake decorating, t-shirt printing and jewellery-construction. All girls receive a salary from the day they join a business, and this facilitates them being able to leave the sex industry immediately. Girls work a maximum 35 hour week and are offered free daycare.

Other Programmes

  • medical treatment within Daughters clinic
  • therapy and counselling clinic
  • educational activities - 'Caring for Myself' workshops on topics such as drugs education, conflict resolution/relationship skills, parenting skills, domestic violence prevention, anatomy, and health/hygiene.
  • External training programmes are sometimes offered in skills not taught at Daughters, such as catering.
  • A range of creative classes to build self-esteem and provide a creative and expressive outlet. These include hip hop dance, photography classes, art and design classes, Khmer dance, music classes, jewellery making, and others.

Programme for Brothel-living Children

Daughters Day Centre also has been providing a programme for very young children who live in the brothels, usually siblings or children of the sex workers. The children are aged from birth to 12 years and do not attend school. The programme is aimed at intervening in the futures of these children by enabling them to achieve a different outcome for their lives through educational opportunities and psychological empowerment. This program is currently suspended pending further fundraising.

Church

Daughters is a Christian organization and has a church on-site meeting every week at which attendance is entirely voluntary. This provides discipleship, worship and a ministry time. We believe that Jesus Christ is able to change and heal lives at the deepest level, and are thrilled that many of the girls who attend our church have become Christians and are growing in their faith. Participation at Daughters is in no way dependent upon being a Christian or attending our church program, and all girls are equally welcome in our programs regardless of religion or beliefs.
